Résumé Writing Do's and Don'ts. The SPACED OUT DOC Cheat Sheet. Don't just list a work history chronology. Do list transferable skills & academic experience. It's imperative to convey where you are headed & how you'd push the org forward. Don't have a poorly formatted résumé. Format helps with continuity & flow. Make it easy for recruiters. They review thousands of résumes, & you don't want yours thrown out based on poor formatting. Don't be inconsistent with tenses. Current job should be in present-tense, & past jobs should be in past-tense. Be consistent because this makes your résumé clear & purposeful. Don't have unmeasurable or unquantifiable bullets. Make each bullet count by ensuring measurable, quantifiable, & actionable results. List what you are doing / leading or did / led in measurable, actionable, & quantifiable ways so that recruiters can gauge your level of impact. Don't have an out-of-date LinkedIn profile. Your résumé should match the timelines, job titles, & academia listed on your LinkedIn. Organizations will online-research you.
